The Breath That Remembers

I placed the shofar to my lips. My breath entered as the breath of one man and emerged as the voice of generations. The walls heard a horn. The soul heard its name. Tekiah—awaken. Shevarim—break open. Teruah—return. The final note disappeared, but the silence kept trembling.

הנשימה שזוכרת

הצמדתי את השופר לשפתיי. נשימתי נכנסה כנשימתו של אדם אחד, ויצאה כקולם של דורות. הקירות שמעו קרן. הנשמה שמעה את שמה. תקיעה — התעורר. שברים — היפתח. תרועה — שוב. הצליל האחרון נמוג, אך הדממה המשיכה לרעוד.
